The answer in my view is that Sun was not worth the price paid by Oracle.

But most acquisitions in the high tech field are not worth the price. See for example the acquisition of McAfee by Intel. Or for that matter was there any value at all in the entire $10 billion batch of acquisitions by Intel during the Craig Barrett era?

It has always seemed to me that most all of the tech acquisitions ego based displays of manhood by executives sitting on piles of cash.
