Santo Domingo.- The crisis which the V Centenario race track is going through is so extended that jockeys, trainers, groomers and even the horse owners talk of halting the events, the string of bad luck, and a temporary closing, news source listin.com.do reports
Failure to pay the horse owners as much as RD$5.0 million for at least the 16 last racing cards, the track’s tattered conditions, only 360 horses competing, as well as a lack of compliance of the measure to hold races during Easter week are among the irregularities that push the V Centenario toward its worse moment since built 16 years ago, the report said.
The news source reports that the track’s situation led to the ouster of Odalix Pimentel from the National Equestrian Commission’s presidency, replaced by Bienvenido Rodriguez, via presidential Decree 279-11, issued May 5. The members of the jury were also removed, replaced by Pedro Julio Simonó, Hunter Castro and Alonso Calcaño.
The developments come just days in the wake of its first ever tragic accident, claiming the life of the jockey Miguel Sanchez in a race on May 2.
But the Centenario’s string of bad luck seems to have no end, as the jockeys Michael Inirio and William Luis sustained minor injuries when falling off their mounts in Monday’s fourth race.

THe track yes is in a run down area right off the interstate coming from Santo Domingo. The area is not a bustling center for local retail etc..... And Neither are many Pro football stadiums in the US but hey they make a few bucks....
Also so you guys are informed research the last director, boss, whatever of the track... YOu will find that he is a family member of the President and the only reason he got the job, they just didn't expect him to destroy the business....
Well as far as Donald trump etc... being interested in the area or making trips from PUNTA CANA area to a race track come... Thats an idiotic idea. THe money made from this place once again is from betting, OTB, whatever place a gambler can bet, KIOSKS???
