Guys, guys, guys ... forget those programmable burst lengths anyway. There is no technical reason to keep them now that we have prefetches. When the prefetch was 1 (=none) there may have been a point in that it was difficult to stream read commands. Now it is absolutely no problem (I checked both the DDR2+ data sheets and the XDR one) to give additional reads so that one gets any burst multiple of the prefetch.

Infineon already (sensibly) has stopped having programmable burst length on GDDR3.
