The short response amazed me.

I saw that shares out on loan jumped again. So I copied the graphic earlier, scaled a grid overtop of the information and overlaid the short interest information. I turned off the grid before I produced the resulting image, but I left 1M intervals on the vertical scale. The date placement is precise, the height of each line is as close as I could get without breaking the Mil scale into 10ths.

At no point was the actual short interest less than 3M greater than the shares out on loan. That would suggest the shorts have pushed the short interest up to at least 23M.

BTW if you look now, you will see the graph has been updated since I took the image snapshot and has now climbed above 20M
