(link fixed)SIAL's new all time high is due IMHO to SGMO's news announcement Monday (note that SGMO and SIAL's charts showed a sharp spike Monday and followed in tandem all week):\

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Sangamo-BioSciences-Announces-prnews-2575673128.html?x=0&.v=1

"RICHMOND, Calif., June 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sangamo BioSciences, Inc. (Nasdaq:SGMO - News) announced today the publication of a groundbreaking preclinical study demonstrating permanent functional correction of the gene that causes hemophilia B by the systemic delivery of zinc finger nucleases (ZFNs) . The study, published in Nature, represents a significant advance in the development and systemic delivery of ZFP Therapeutics® and proof of concept for ZFN-based gene-editing for the treatment of hemophilia and other monogenic diseases. "

This is very dramatic evidence that zinc fingers work. I would expect it to have some effect on KBLB's SP as well although lagging and much less pronounced - some will realize the connection between SGMO's zinc fingers and KBLB's zinc fingers and decide to put some money on KBLB as well,IMHO. Hopefully enough to put a floor on the SP and some upward movement.

We already know that zinc fingers have been proven to work in the silkwom:

Targeted mutagenesis in the silkworm Bombyx mori using zinc finger nuclease mRNA injection

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20692340

The hemophilia cure in mice shows that genes altered by zinc fingers do what they are supposed to do (in at least some cases).

The odds for success for pure spider silk look even better with that news.

A VERY important distinction to notice in that news: the mice had only a few percent increase in clotting factor (but it was enough). That was because that use of zinc fingers was to make genetic modications in *some* of the cells in an adult animal. In contrast the KBLB ZF modifications will be to eggs and will result in the gene being added to ALL cells in the silkworms (because it will be done in the single cell stage. So the protein will be produced by all cells (of the relevant type) rather than just a small percentage as with the hemophilic mice. So anyone who says that, "yeah but it was only a few percent in the mice, so the worms may not produce enough spider silk protein", is either confused or is tying to mislead you. GMs at the single cell stage make changes that are then present in every single cell of the organism (and in all of its descendents.

Pure spider silk from silkworms = penny stock no more.
