Let me first say that I believe the product is meant to operate so that with every drag the battery should activate and heat the coil. Weather the user feels the heat, that is different; I always do (when the coil heats up).
There are two methods to activate the sensor easily:
1) As you drag, cover the whole for a fraction of a second and release all while dragging. The blue light will turn on and voila.
2) Take a very hard but quick drag just to initially trigger the sensor, then drag as soft/hard as you like from there.
I have been using method two, so you don't have to pay attention to where your fingers are as you smoke.
These methods can easily be negated if they modify the filter to let more air pass through and activate the battery easier. If the blue light does not go on when you are inhaling, the battery/coil are doing nothing.
