• A total of 23 states, along with Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington D.C, have a law in
effect that requires non-hospitality workplaces, restaurants, and bars to be 100% smokefree. These laws,
along with local laws in other states, protect 47.9% of the U.S. population.
• A total of 29 states, along with Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Washington D.C, have a law in
effect that requires restaurants and bars to be 100% smokefree. These laws, along with local laws in other
states, protect 63.7% of the U.S. population.
• A total of 17 states, along with Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, have enacted 100% smokefree laws
for all state regulated gaming.
*Includes both public and private non-hospitality workplaces, including, but not limited to, offices, factories,
and warehouses.
