Well I did look at the datasheets before posting and my impression was indeed that when they are talking about 700 MHz, they mean a clock speed of 700 MHz which simply means 1.4 Gbps.(per data bit)

The confusion also seems to have taken Anandtech by surprise, because they also talk about 256 bit wide. I never saw it like that, I see 128 bits wide (by Cal's formula and by Elixe's formula, LOL)

Btw not all GDDR chips are 32 bits wide, 16 bits wide also exists.
