"sabot rounds" from the french word meaning "shoe" have "shoes" that split off from the DU "slug" upon exiting the bore, allowing the round to carry much more kinetic energy in a much smaller round, resulting in incredible penetrating ability...
... $H, seems to me we have some "sabots" around here that are about to get jettisoned off in the sand as we continue this streamlined launch with minimal resistance!
