There should be a large market for providing remote facilities with off the grid power in South America.
This is the first order for our client, a senior mining company in Chile, for the DeWind D8 wind turbine and demonstrates their commitment to exploring renewable energy sources." stated Tim Adams, Managing Director of Seawind. "We expect to be deploying more than 40 MW of DeWind turbines in Chile during 2008 for our internal and external project development pipeline," he added.
The Chilean branch of UK-based wind developer Seawind broke ground on the 1.5MW wind farm set for the El Toqui zinc mine in southern region XI, Chile's mining ministry said in a statement.
The project is set to be completed in May 2010.
The mine's operator, Canadian company Breakwater Resources (TSX: BWR), will be able to reduce its diesel consumption by 12-18% when the wind farm begins operations, which, depending on oil prices, could save the company up to 20% in costs, according to the statement.
