The guy claims that he has 8 systems exhibiting this behaviour
so I ruled out an individual chip issue. I assume that SIMD
operations use the hidden registers to perform parallel operations or perhaps there are hidden SIMD registers as well. I haven't looked at a HT diagram in a while.

Is it possible that the splitting up of hidden registers for HT
means that parallel operations may take longer to execute?

I've asked him to turn off HT before running the test again. I
don't know if this is easy to do or not on his systems.

The discussion is at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=267019

The reason that I suspect SIMD is that the builds he's having
issues with use SIMD instructions and the builds that are faster don't use SIMD instructions.
