Genetic modifications only change one copy of a gene. To breed true you have to have animals that are homozygous (both copies the same). That takes several generations of cross breeding and selection.

People should remember when they make their own predictions on timing that there are many aspects of the process that are not obvious to laypersons and therefore all predictions are really just speculation and guesses.


It's reasonable to fault a company for not meeting a schedule it has set out (taking into full account such adjectives as "tentative") but not when it fails to meet schedules we calculated based on our assumptions or limited knowledge.

Above all keep in mind that the pace of research is *inherently* highly variable. (Which is one of many reasons why using options and margin is exceedingly risky in biotechnology.)
