Were it truly short, the stock would appear on the Reg Sho threshold security list, at least once in a while.
What you are looking at on the OTC list is actually a "naked short". I had thought you could understand MMs circumvent being put on the "Reg Show threshold security list" (naked short list) by simply wash trading amongst themselves. Technically, when they do a wash trade this way they have not held the stock for more than 13 days, and therefore avoid classification as a "naked short". They do the wash trades because otherwise they are barred from further trading in the stock until they do an actual cover. They are playing musical chairs with the trading of the stock. Capisce?
