No I don't think Intel paid Dell to get rid of AMD

Uh, the reason for the payments to Dell are neither secret nor
sinister.

During the time in question Dell did huge amount of advertising
including TV spots, mass mailings, newspaper inserts and so
on. Any or all of these ads that included Intel's product logos
were open to subsidy with co-marketing money from Intel. A
huge amount of advertising meant a huge amount of money from
Intel.

It is a clear sign of the desperation of AMD camp followers that
they have to repeatedly turn back to this issue to explain why
AMD coulda been a contenda! It is a lot more palatable than the
real reason - AMD repeatedly screwed up successors to K8 and
fell far behind Intel in product competitiveness.

My prediction is if dullbozer turns out to be a dud the boyz will
claim it to be the fault of 1) Intel payments to Dell, 2) the FDIV
bug in Pentium, 3) anything to do with Itanium, and 4) a dark
conspiracy involving Elvis and bigfoot run out of area 51 with
Intel MIB secret agents.
