souzagotcha - That got me once too! I purchased a stock one day before the "date of record" only to learn that I don't really own the stock until the settlement date (3 days - 5 days if there is a weekend). I held the stock as it fell waiting for the mail date. That's when I found out that I did not get the dividend! Arg!! Learned that lesson.
