Disney Wants Trademark For "Seal Team 6"

Disney Submitted Applications Two Days After Bin Laden Was Killed

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Disney has come up with an idea to possibly capitalize on what are now famous military heroes, Seal Team 6.
The elite group within the U.S. Navy SEALs are responsible for taking down Osama Bin Laden.
According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Disney Enterprises Incorporated, submitted three applications for the trademark, two days after Osama Bin Laden was killed.
In the application, the trademark would cover clothes, footwear, toys, games, Christmas ornaments, snow globes and other items.
Disney's corporate offices in California did not return our calls Friday.
Stephen Luther, trademark and patent attorney with Allen, Dyer, Doppelt, Milbrath & Gilchrist, said it usually takes nine to 12 months for an application to be approved.
Luther said the application will likely be approved because he believes it passes the trademark test, which is whether or not the consumer would confuse one for the other.
"No one is likely to believe Disney and the government have some type of formal affiliation or Disney and the Navy," Luther said.
Luther also points out that another company, NovaLogic, Inc, out of California, applied for the same patent back in 2004 but after two years the trademark was abandoned.
According to their website, NovaLogic Inc. was founded in 1985, by CEO John Garcia, NovaLogic Inc. is a developer and global publisher of computer games for the PC, PlayStation® and PlayStation® 2 game consoles, NINTENDO GAMECUBE and Xbox™ video game system.
