OnLine Power Supply Awarded U.S. Patent for Advancements in AC/DC Power Supply Technology

December 19, 2002 07:00:00 (ET)

CENTENNIAL, Colo., Dec 19, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- OPS - OnLine Power Supply, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: OPWR), has received notice of allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a patent entitled "Power Factor Controller." This patent (6,493,242 B1) was issued on December 10, 2002 and is a "divisional" of a prior patent entitled "Individual or Distributed Non-Saturating Magnetic Element Power Converter" (6,272,025).

The new patent covers improvements in converter strategies, circuit design, apparatus, and processes that enable OPS to produce AC/DC power supplies with ultra-high efficiencies that do not thermally derate. These combined improvements translate into higher system efficiencies, higher power densities, lower operating temperatures, and improved thermal tolerance, which reduce or even eliminate the need for forced air cooling.

Additional advancements covered by the patent state that the non- saturating magnetic properties are relatively insensitive to temperature and allow the converter to operate over a greater temperature range. This makes the Company's power supplies ideal solutions for harsh environment applications. The patent is the second for OPS.

"We have robust products that provide critical advantages for our leading- edge customers," said Glenn Grunewald, CEO of OPS. "With the addition of our second patent, we're well positioned in preserving and protecting the competitive advantages that set us apart from competing products."

OPS holds two U.S. patents for the process of producing AC to DC power supplies that provide efficiencies of up to 97 percent, extended operating temperature ranges and unparalleled power densities, all without thermal derating. This innovation is called Distributed Power Magnetics (DPM) and is the first significant breakthrough in AC to DC power supply technology in over 23 years. The sophisticated DPM products also boast impressive MTBF statistics, all in the lightest and smallest footprint available for their particular configurations. Benefited industries include telecommunications, data communications, networking and industrial. For additional information, visit www.powersupply.com, or call 1-800-445-4824.
