Right you are...you are referring to API 13 oil from the Kern River oil field north east of Bakersfield. Chevron has a refinery there specifically to deal with that heavy oil. Nothing wrong with the heavy (sour) crude there, just not as valuable, and costs more to produce, as light crude oil from the West side. The fields west of Bakersfield typically produce 30 to 40 gravity oil.
