Bromine (or bromine as bormide) is an element. It can not be destroyed. Search drinking water, and trihalomethanes (suspect Human carcinogins) for issues where halogens in the feed water led to trihalomethane formation when treated with disinfecting oxidizers like Cl2, ClO2, OCl-, O3.

IIRC, O3 and ClO2 produce less of it than OCl- (HOCl), or Cl2, but drinking water plants have spent bilions of dollars to reduce THMs in drinking water already (since the early to mid 90's), many by replacing Cl2 with ClO2 or O3 plus CL2 in stages, with better prefiltration of feed water.
