MF4, I think the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan were both misguided. We had Saddam just where we wanted him -- contained within a no-fly zone. We can't try to change the whole world. In Afghanistan we should have just made sure through military means that al Qaeda could not maintain training bases there. Vietnam was also a mistake as is evident from the fact that the North Viernamese won the war and took over in the South. If we were intent on winning that war, we should have just nuked North Vietnam. End of game, end of story.

But cutting $100 or $200 billion from defense will not cure our budget woes. Yes, our government has done a great disservice to taxpayers and other citizens, but continuing in deficit spending and increasing the debt indefinitely would prove disastrous to us all. I think present and future Congresses and Presidents will be very reluctant to spend profligately. We simply need to increase revenues to the Tresury through taxation.
