you only get filled at the bid if someone sells and the market makers do not want to pick up shares at the moment. If you bid wack be prepared to sit for days if not a week on a stock to get an order filled. A bid order does provide bid support in the event the stock moves down however when the stock is on a run the only place to buy and sell is at the ask.

Some people have a distain for bid wacking however it does provide a market base for the stock, bid selling in the middle of a run should be a hanging offense, it kills momentum.
