I was looking at a website that listed the 10 largest retail chains in the USA in 2010. They had Walgreens listed at #6 and was concidered to be the largest drug store chain. They had CVS at #9. But who knows...They must be a close 1 and 2.

This public corporation in the United States of America controls and maintains a number of department stores. Walmart was declared to be the largest in terms of revenue in the world in 2008. Founded in 1962 by Sam Walton, this grocery retailer provides employment to thousands every year.
2. The Home Depot
The Home Depot maintains over 2,000 retail stores in different parts of the United States and has its headquarters in Georgia. These retail stores stock up on products of construction and home improvement. In other words, it allows customers to indulge in DIY projects and therefore, save money.
3. The Kroger Co.
This supermarket retail chain has been around since 1883 and was established by Bernard Henry Kroger. The Kroger Co. owns over 2,400 supermarkets and declared about 76 billion dollars in sales during 2008. Its headquarters are in Downtown Cincinnati and it owns mall jewellery stores, hypermarkets, convenience stores and department stores all over the United States.
4. Target Corporation
Target Corporation is known all over the world as Target and was established in 1902 in Minnesota. Target has stores in every states of the United States except Vermont and is known as SuperTarget and Target Greatland as well. After Walmart, it is said to be the biggest and most well known discount retailer in the country.
5. Costco Wholesale Corporation
Costco Wholesale Corporation is known throughout the United States as Costco and is said to be the largest in the country among the membership wholesale clubs that exist. In 2009, Costco was declared to be among the top 10 largest retailers in the world. In addition to that, it also holds the largest stocks of fine wine.
6. The Walgreen Company
The Walgreen is known as Walgreens and is considered to be the largest in the United States amongst the drugstore chains. It maintains and controls over 7,000 stores all over the United States and offers prescriptions drugs as well as medical plans. It was established in 1901 in Illinois and its headquarters are in Deerfield, Illinois.
7. Sears Holdings Corporation
Sears Holdings Corporation was established 5 years back when Kmart Holdings Corporation and Sear, Roebuck and Co. decided to merge. It operates over 3,900 stores across the country and generates massive revenues ever year. Mastheads of Sears Essentials, Kmart, The Great Indoors, Big Kmart, etc are associated with this retail chain.
8. Lowe’s Companies, Inc.
Lowe’s Companies, Inc. was established in 1946 and operates retail stores specializing in home improvement products. It operates over 1,700 stores across the United States and can be found in all 50 states. Lowe is said to be the largest after The Home Depot in terms of hardware stocks.
9. CVS Caremark Corporation
CVS Caremark Corporation owns over 6,500 stores in the United States and is a very well-known pharmacy provider in the country. It also has an online pharmacy, making it easier for residents to order prescription drugs. CVS has its headquarters in Rhode Island and Tennessee.
