Intel can drive the prices down while still making a profit because of advances in manufacturing and smaller geometries

It could do but it hasn't in the past when there's been no competition. Surprising how Xeon got seriously developed from 2 Ghz when Opteron appeared or how it acquired 64bit as well. This track record proves that Intel will not add features or cut prices without AMD competition, hell it would have been Itanium or nothing if they had got their way in the 64bit server space.


I am of the opinion that Intel will not offer discounts to OEM’s who subsidize part of a print ad (for example) which showcases a competitors product alongside Intel’s. Intel’s hand is forced

How many ads have you seen that are joint Intel and Amd ? Where do you guys dream this stuff up ?
