The one I used was on the ground with an 8' hose, the sluice box discharged back into the river and as we moved more material we would keep moving up river a little at a time. We could also throw in gravel from the banks into the top of the dredge and let it wash down and the black sand and gold dust would settle into the grates and a special porous type rug at the end. Small time operation compared to what they are doing.
