Nope: the article says:

“The well, drilled in 1655 metres of water, reached a total depth of 3543 metres below sea level”



You have to subtract the sea depth, not add it.

So the well is 1,888 meters below the sea-bed, which is 6,194 feet (1.17 miles.)
