Have you tried Lysine? It's really cheap, a couple bucks for a bottle. Take a couple tabs a day or more when you feel it coming on. I am fortunate, and don't have cold sores, but the person that gave me this piece of wisdom gets them from the sun. I've passed it on, and mentioned it in passing to my vet. She says she gives her little kittens Lysine for pink eye. Long ago, I passed it on to a research nurse who had herpes on her arms. She takes two tabs daily and in fifteen years has not had another outbreak.
