I worked in Texas for a number of years. From Dallas to Corpus Christi. It does get humid. If I was employed, I would keep my house at 80 as well. But during the summer, I keep it about 84 and take a noon shower outside in the hose to cool down and water the grass. At night I do the same thing before goning to bed.

Some day we will have Solar batteries for our auto sprinklers that charge the batteries that keeps the time for them.

I did last summer, install a Solar powered operated attic fan. This fan has a thermostat that kicks on when the attic heat reaches 84 degrees.It's sucks the heat out and blows the hot air into the sky! Only cost about $300, but got to write it all off this year on my taxes.

A/C units sit outside in the sun, why not have those run on Solar as well. Possible someday!
