Harman International Industries, best known for high-end audio brands such as Harman Kardon, JBL,Infinity and Mark Levinson. Under Mr. Harman's direction, the company has invested close to $800 million to manufacture "infotainment systems" for luxury cars such as BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Porsche. The company's signature autotive system blends audio, video, navigation, voice recognition and telephone services into a single dashboard unit. Harman's all-in-one configuration is a big hit with the car markers because it saves space and is easy to integrate with other digital systems.
"Consumer electronics is a tough place to make money for everybody..no exception".
He expects demand for car electroncis to soar when navigation systems drop in price from $2,000 to about $500 and adds: "There is a real appetite for these systems."
