lojjm: I read "The Lexus and the Olive Tree" a few years ago. I guess I didn’t like it as much as you did, but it does have some good passages.

The most significant message I gleaned was that politics matter less and less in the Third World because all politicians have to pay homage to the bond raters at Moody’s and S&P. We have seen this to some extent with Lula, the president-elect of Brazil. If more investors had read Friedman’s book, maybe the Brazilian currency and stock market would not have tanked so badly this year. Regards, Dew
