Oracle already works on so many Unix variations incl. Linux, and I doubt it includes assembly code. It should be just almost totally automated to get it compiled on the new system.

All the apps on Linux probably have more lines of code in all, and I bet most of them compiled on Hammer with small or no changes. I'm not saying it's a tiny job, but I do think it's a one-man job. Two if they use pair-programming smile.

All that validation stuff is only necessary if they actually want to sell it. They can do it if they decide to launch it as a product ie after they run internal benchmarks on production silicon. There's no evidence that Oracle have already made that decision.
