ORIGIN:
DATING:
PROVENANCE:
Galba A. xiv and Nero A. ii, ff. 3-13, seem originally to have formed a single manuscript. The evidence, which Ker regarded as "fairly conclusive", comprises identity of two hands, identity of format, the presence in both manuscripts of notes by John Josselyn, and the fact that "both have the same curiously comprehensive character liturgically and come evidently from the same region" [see Ker, Cat. MSS Anglo-Saxon, pp. 200-1, no. 157]. They were separated by the time of their appearance in the Cotton "loan-list" in BL, Harl. MS 6018, as nos. 111 (includes Nero A. ii, ff. 3-13) and 124 (Galba A. xiv) [ibid.].
The combined MS (Galba A. xiv + Nero A. ii, ff. 3-13) perhaps belonged to John Josselyn (d. 1603), since there is a note by him in Nero A. ii, f. 8, dated 1593.
