Writers Group Film Corp. (WRIT)

Growth Potential / Upcoming Products & Services:

WRIT, through its wholly owned subsidiary Front Row Networks Inc., is a content creation company that has assembled a team from top creative and business professionals with a common goal of producing and acquiring live 3D concert productions which can be broadcast digitally directly into theaters across the world.

WRIT produces live concerts by top recording artists in 3D for initial digital broadcast into movie theaters in the United States, with a wider rollout anticipated in Western Europe, South America and Asia, after a successful US theatrical run. Following the initial theatrical run, the 3D concerts will be licensed to TV broadcasters and DVD retailers.

In addition, Management intends to sell merchandising and sponsorship, specific to each artist in the concert, in theaters where the live concert will be exhibited. This new concept is intended to present the live concerts in 3D to a massive fan base worldwide in a cost efficient manner.

WRIT will leverage its distribution networks and its licensing and merchandising relationships by acquiring 2D and 3D concert footage that has already been produced. The Company will convert its 2D catalogue into digital 3D format, allowing it to package and sell all of its acquired content to digital broadcasters worldwide.

The current worldwide phenomenon surrounding 3D motion pictures creates a great opportunity to WRIT. From all corners of the globe, the appeal of 3D is undeniable. Statistics show that it is clear in a very short period of time 3D films have become the top grossing films. Until 2008, the US revenue from films that were offered in 3D never accounted for more than 3% of all films.

In 2009, they represented 16.3%, and in 2010, 31.4%. They out-gross their 2D counterparts by a minimum 3:1 ratio. In addition, there were over 15,300 digital 3D screens worldwide at the end of 2010, compared with 8,989 3D screens at the end of 2009. The number of 3D screens worldwide almost doubled last year.

Management believes that audiences will be attracted to the new 3D technology and expects its broadcast of the initial concert to be one of the first of its kind in North America. The current success of Hollywood 3D films and the continuing success of large scale concerts suggest a large international market for the Project.

WRIT’s initial production, acquisition and distribution strategy is designed to bring the much desired live concert experience to a massive worldwide fan base by incorporating the following elements;

• Utilize state-of-the-art 3D digital projection technology to reduce or eliminate post production expenses and print costs, and reduce advertising expenditures.

• Utilize 3D visual production techniques that will maximize the audience experience and appeal to a broad demography.

• Acquire and leverage 2D and 3D catalogue by packaging the new 3D concert theatrical events, with the existing catalogue, creating a corporate identity as the premiere brand in 3D theatrical events.

• Reduce distribution costs by capitalizing on existing concert promotions and advertising, by leveraging the Company's catalogue with worldwide distribution partners, and by broadcasting content directly to theaters.

• Engage the best and most popular artists for the initial concert series.

• Target the best and most popular artists and performances for the Company's catalogue acquisitions.

• Provide sponsorship opportunities and merchandise for sale to enhance the revenues for the Company and its distribution partners.

Industry:

In our opinion, Live Nation would be a perfect partner for WRIT.

Live Nation is a live-events company based in Beverly Hills, California, focused on concert promotions. Live Nation formed in 2005 as a spin-off from Clear Channel Communications, which then merged with Ticketmaster in 2010 to become Live Nation Entertainment.

Live Nation produced nearly 22,000 concerts for 2,000 artists in 42 countries during 2009. In 2009, over 52 million fans attended Live Nation concerts and the Company drove over 70 million unique visitors to its website.

Globally, Live Nation owns, operates, has booking rights for and/or has an equity interest in 142 venues, including House of Blues music venues and prestigious locations such as The Fillmore in San Francisco, the Hollywood Palladium, the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam and the O2 Dublin.

Live Nation reported 2010 Q1 revenues of $723 million, down 6.8% from revenue of $775.6 million in the first quarter of 2009.

*The average attendees per event in 2008 was 2127 attendees/event, compared to 2329 attendees/event in 2007, a 202 attendees/event drop. Furthermore, concert attendance in North America dropped 22% in the first quarter of 2009.

WRIT is looking at a way to bring a live 3d concert to fans at an extremely reduced price of what the actual event ticket costs.

Take a look at some of the ticket price averages for some big names:

The average price of Eric Clapton tickets for the eight upcoming shows is $238. The most expensive Clapton show is at the Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk with an average ticket price of $319.

Bon Jovi's concert tickets for the upcoming tour are going for an average price of $165 per ticket. The average price for tickets to see Lady Gaga on tour is $174 per ticket.

3D is becoming the hottest thing in the movie and entertainment world today. Just look at how fast it’s growing and the big dollars it’s bringing in:

3D films accounted for 11% of the $10.6 billion worth of ticket sales in the U.S. last year.

More than 20 3D movies were released in 2009 - including the blockbuster hit Avatar - and this propelled a boost to $1.14 billion of 3D ticket sales in 2009, from just $240 million in 2008, the New York Times' Media Decoder reports.

3D movies get higher revenues because of premium ticket prices--up to $18 a pop in some areas.

John Fithian, the chief executive of the National Association of Theatre Owners, explained to Hollywood Reporter:

Four straight years of box office growth, the last three each setting a new record, show the enormous appetite audiences continue to have for great and entertaining movies in the best way to enjoy them on a big screen with a big crowd.

3D concerts are making a big move! Can you imagine being able to watch one live from your local theatre?

To date, only "U2 3D" and "Fly Me to the Moon" have been released only in 3D, and neither tallied huge box office in the U.S. Other 3D pics have opted for a mixed 2D/3D release. Of 3D concert releases, only "Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: The Best of Both Worlds" has been a major success. AEG has seen boffo numbers for 2D concert release "Michael Jackson's This Is It," released through Sony, with $186 million worldwide.

In an impressive start, Never Say Never opened to an estimated $12.4 million from 3,105 theaters to beat Just Go With It, which grossed an estimated $9.7 million from 3,548 theaters. In 2008, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour opened to $8.7 million on its way to grossing $31.1 million.

Avatar earned $3,537,000 just from the midnight opening night screenings domestically (United States and Canada), with the initial 3-D release limited to 2,200 screens.

The film earned $27 million on its opening day, and $77 million over its opening weekend, making it the second largest December opening ever behind I Am Legend, the largest domestic opening weekend for a film not based on a franchise (topping The Incredibles), and the 25th largest national United States weekend opening, despite a blizzard which blanketed the East Coast of the United States and reportedly hurt its opening weekend results.

The IMAX opening also broke box office records, with 178 theaters generating approximately $9.5 million, 13% of the film's $73 million (at the time) domestic gross on less than 3% of the screen.

Avatar's worldwide gross was an estimated $232,180,000 after five days, the ninth largest opening-weekend gross of all time, and the largest for a non-franchise, non-sequel and original film. 58 international IMAX screens generated an estimated $4.1 million during the opening weekend.

On the 19th day of the film's international release, it crossed the $1 billion mark worldwide, making it the fastest film ever to do so and also making it the highest-grossing release of 2009 worldwide.

In its fourth weekend, Avatar continued to lead the box office domestically, setting a new all-time fourth-weekend record of $50,306,217, and becoming the highest-grossing 2009 release in the United States.

In the film's fifth weekend, it set the Martin Luther King Day four-day weekend record, grossing $54,401,446, and set another three-day weekend record with a take of $42,785,612.

It held to the top spot to set the sixth and seventh weekend records earning $34,944,081 and $31,280,029 respectively. On January 31 it became the first film to earn over $2 billion, and on February 27, after 72 days of domestic release, it became the first film to gross over $700 million. It remained in the number one spot at the domestic box office for seven consecutive weeks—the most consecutive #1 weekends since Titanic spent 15 weekends at #1 in 1997–'98—and also spent 11 consecutive weekends at the top of the box office outside the United States and Canada.

By the end of its first theatrical release Avatar had grossed $749,766,139 in Canada and the U.S., and $1,990,639,582 in other territories, for a worldwide total of $2,740,405,721.

MP3.com was a HUGE success when it went public. We feel that’s very important to take note of when looking at WRIT considering WRIT’s CEO was a key founding employee of MP3.com!

Viviendi bought MP3.com for $5 per share in a cash and stock deal valued at about $372 Million. The move came eight months after Vivendi successfully sued MP3.com over copyright violation. Vivendi was one of five major record companies to sue MP3.com - and the only one that refused to settle before the case reached court.

MP3.com (Nasdaq:MPPP) made some serious noise with its market debut. After issuing 12.3 million shares of common stock at a price of $28, the bad boy of online music distributors saw its shares open at $92, then rocket more than 272% to a high of $103.

Analysts say the company's biggest asset is its name, which is also the name of the emerging standard for digital audio compression. But MP3.com doesn't own the technology. Rather, it publishes digital music files and offers independent recordings, splitting the proceeds 50/50 with the artists.

None of this makes it popular with the established record labels, who typically pay artists far less than 50%, and who fear that the widespread use of copyright- unprotected MP3 will lead to equally widespread intellectual property piracy.
