Rather than the aura of the CX-717 artifact, I think it's more that Varney/Stoll have refused to entertain reasonable offers (reasonable being in the .50/share range or less). They simply wouldn't sell for that, preferring instead to keep slogging on, keeping their jobs and paying their salaries from whatever funds they can still generate from financings/pharma deals. If things get dire enough, maybe they will finally sell, but probably not as long as there are still assets to sell off/partner and sources of interim financings.
