In other words, the iqauto system counts QQQQ May 52 puts even though it is quite unlikely the index will trade at that range between here and May expiration.

That's why I think it isn't the best system all the time.

Before you say something about the May open interest at the far away strikes, let me show you January 2006's option chain for the QQQQ's:

The chains like this really mess with iqauto's system. We see those types of chains quarterly.
