If I may share a personal experience, yesterday I was released from a major Cancer center after my lung biopsy proved negative. Back tracking this biopsy was the result of a series of 3 CT scans over the past two years and a more detailed Pet scan last month. A needle biopsy on the lungs can be a scary procedure particularly for seniors who may have Emphysema or other lung problems. A collapsed lung during my biopsy resulted in an overnight stay with a tube in my chest to release any air that may have escaped there.

Sometimes I was told later a collapsed lung can prevent the biopsy from being completed and often begins a series of repeats. It was my good fortune that the first attempt was successful and the collapsed lung repair itself overnight.

The point here is these scans are expensive and some say dangerous as they are equivalent to 200 chest xrays radiation wise. These scans show "positives" inside your lungs etc. These could be old scar tissue from earlier illnesses or antibiotics treatments or "radiation" exposure.

Scans can't tell you if it is positive and malignant or just positive. I think you can see the great leap forward having a simplified screen test procedure.
