The "hint" was in the volume and the way that volume presented itself on the Time & Sales Log and the Time & Quotes Log; then adding the knowledge from the chart itself and how certain patterns are often harbingers, as this one was. I admit it's as much art as science, but the tools are there and the clues are there.
