Rock 'n' roll was always part of the plan.

At least, that's what Patrick Gaffey, cultural program supervisor for the Clark County Parks and Recreation Department, said about the ever-evolving series The Young Originals set to feature local indie scene favorites The Clydesdale and A Crowd of Small Adventures beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

Admission is $5.

"We're planning a pretty incredible doubleheader with these two bands," he said.

The Clydesdale is a country, folk and rock band featuring musicians Paige Overton, Andrew Karasa, Jason Aragon and Courtney Carroll.

A Crowd of Small Adventures features the vocal stylings of Jackson Wilcox and musical talents of Megan Wingerter, Mike Weller, Ronald Corso and Sean Villaros.

The show is for people of all ages, and Gaffey said he's excited to add rock music to the mix of entertainment offered in the series, which has been running since last summer.

"We do a lot of musical stuff," he said. "But we are more known for acoustic, world music and jazz. It has always been part of the plan to add rock to our mixture."

Gaffey describes the new direction of the series as a big departure for the Winchester.

"The local indie rock scene is so rich, and we really wanted to highlight that," he said, "especially with these two excellent bands."

The event will feature individual performances and consist of mostly original material, according to A Crowd of Small Things frontman Wilcox.

"We've been together since 2007," he said. "We write our own stuff, and we're really proud of what we have to offer."

Wilcox said he hopes people come away from the show feeling as though they have experienced something they haven't before.

"Music should be inspiring," he said.

Wilcox said he is excited to play an all-ages show.

"You don't get to do that too often in Las Vegas," he said.

Gaffey said the center was able to make the show for all ages because there will be no alcoholic beverages for sale.

"We want this to be fun for families and kids," he said. "That's our aim, to give people in the community an opportunity to enjoy great, original music in a family-friendly setting."

Gaffey said the series has been successful so far, and he hopes it will continue to be.

"That will sort of dictate how long we keep it going," he said. "It will also be an indicator of what the series consists of, who we invite to play. This is a community endeavor."
