The National Geographic project will use the Mitochondrial DNA to retrace the steps of human migration. DNAP does not use this method, so we should not expect DNAPrint Genomics to be part of this project.

To quote the National Geographic article: "The Mitochondrial DNA, handed down virtually unchanged from mothers to their children, is one source that was used to calculate the so-called ancestral Eve, who would have lived in Africa about 180,000 years ago."

It is possible that National Geographic is using a less precise technologhy than is available from DNAP. DNAP puts i thios way: "The main difference between this test, called an autosomal test, and other geneticst tests such as Y-chromosome or mitochondrial (mtDNA) tests is that it surveys across all 23 chromosome pairs, not just one of them. By analogy, AncestryByDNA allows one to read all 23 chapters of their DNA book when inferring their ancestry, not just one of those chapters."

It may also be that using the Mitochonrial DNA is preferable to show mass moventment of groups while uncovering the particular make-up of an individual is better accomplished by using DNAP.

Would it be correct to say that one uses Mitochondrial Dna to trace lineage through the mother and DNAP to trace lineage through the father?
