Fiscal Conservatives need to focus all their efforts and place the passage of "Right to Work" laws at the top of their agenda at both the State and the Federal level. "Right to Work" laws end mandatory union membership as a condition of employment and also eliminate automatic payroll deduction of union dues.
Such laws do not end collective bargaining (a right which is viewed favorably by a majority of voters) nor do they outlaw unions. They do make sure that union membership is voluntary, and would hugely cut into the union ability to control campaign funding and power.
Gov. Walker and the Republican majority in Wisconsin should be concentrating their efforts to make Wisconsin a "Right to Work" state rather than their current focus on the elimination of unions' ability to collective bargain on benefits -- a good idea, but one that is not strongly backed by the general public.
