US OIL CLOSE: NYMEX March light sweet crude oil futures settled up $0.67 at $84.99 per barrel after trading in a $84.12 to $85.95 range. Brent crude closed up $2.14 at $103.78 (WTI/Brent spread at $18.79 at close), after posting nearly a 29-month high of $104.52 earlier.
Oil prices pushed higher on the day on plans (announced earlier
in the week) by Iran to sail two warships through
the Suez Canal to Syria.

Israeli officials have voiced concern about the trip, and are closely watching the situation, according to various media reports.
An Al Jazeera report Wednesday, quotes the Egyptian authority that runs the Suez Canal denying any knowledge of the trip.
Ahmed Al Manakhly, (director of transit in the Suez Canal
Authority) told Al Jazeera that 24 hour approval is needed
for any warship to pass.
He said under international treaties, Egypt can not deny
passage unless it is in a state of war with that country,
the report notes.
