The Honda Point Disaster was the largest peacetime loss of U.S. Navy ships. On the evening of September 8, 1923, seven destroyers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clemson_class_destroyer), while traveling at 20 knots (37 km/h), ran aground at Honda Point, a few miles from the northern side of the Santa Barbara Channel off Point Arguello on the coast in Santa Barbara County, California, while trying to find San Diego. . Two other ships grounded, but were able to maneuver free of the rocks. Twenty three sailors died in the disaster.
It was later learned that the flagship, USS Delphy, was the only one doing any navigation. The other six ships in line simply followed Delphy, believeing that as the flagship of Commodore Edward Watson, it had to be following the correct track. Thus the six trailing ships followed Delphy up onto the rocks.
It is my observation that this board is increasingly becoming the Honda Point of members' boards. Few are doing any DD; most are just following the loudest members who are aboard the commodore's ship. Add this to the volatility of pink page stocks and you have a perfect mess. I have banned several "members" to the Phantom Zone and continue to invest as I see it. It is very peaceful for me. I recommend it.
