What about open-source systems, D.inkie?
Since I have very little applicable knowledge in this area, I wonder if you and others might comment on file management solutions from linux developers? Obviously the potential for advancement by large CE companies into areas of patented proprietary technology such as e Digital's is greatly advanced by the availability of new non-proprietary software; especially now that IBM has taken up its cause.
