Another Apple connection:

On Sept 21 when BIO-key was showcasing its fingerprint biometric solutions, including the recently announced Enterprise Identification Platform for Mobile Devices and Smartphones running on the LG eXpo Smartphone, Apple iPad and Apple iPhone, S.C.I. Biometric Systems, a Montreal, Canada based company, was announcing the launching of the first fingerprint reader running on the AppleTM mobile devices. Both announcements were made at the start of the Biometrics Consortium Conference in Tampa, Florida.

Here is part of the S.C.I. Biometrics news release:

The Fingerprint Mobile Identification Device for Apple mobile devices called iFMID, authenticates the identity of people from an iPhoneTM or iPod touchTM through an App and a remote matching server.

The iFMID solution were delivered already in U.S.A. for Government projects.

The initial demand came from Apple in the Washington area said Eric Talbot, President of S.I.C. Biometrics. ''S.I.C. was referred to Apple because of its quick capability of integrating fingerprint biometric technology to all kinds of applications. Apple was looking for a FBI certified fingerprint sensor that can work with the iPhoneT for a US Government agencies.

With our 11 years of experience in the biometric world, we delivered the first prototype in less than 2 weeks and the iFMID adventures started.''

iFMID interacts very simply with an Application running on the Apple devices, said Michel Leblanc, Chief Technologies Officer of S.I.C. ''The App access is secured by fingerprint, and when you are logging into the App, you can capture a fingerprint template to compare it to a remote server that matches the template in less than a second on a 25 000 templates database''.
----------------

S.C.I. Biometrics is a partner of UPEK. UPEK was acquired by AuthenTec. AuthenTec is a partner of BIO-key.

It has been reported by someone in England who had an iPad for reviewing purposes that it had a fingerprint reader. And now that Motorola Atrix has a fingerprint reader using BIO-key technology that is coming out soon, things are sure looking great for BIO-key; IMHO.
