Things that make you go "hmmmmmm" indeed.
A while back (couple years? time flies lol) there was going to be a big deal news story aired about naked shorting and related "criminal" activity, along with connections to the big money behind it. By the time that actually hit the air it was so watered down and sliced/diced you could hardly make anything out of it.
IMHO people get paid and/or threatened to just skip over most of this kind of stuff. I guess there were enough of the "right" people ripped off by Bernie Madoff to mandate investigation, prosecution and incarceration.
There is a silo full of fodder for news stories on this sort of thing, just the multiple companies these YAGI/Victim CEOs work at are interesting. I guess it's hard for an energetic reporter to make a series of news pieces on this as it's just so hard to prove, and the details involved in proving it and/or just making a story out of it are typically, as everyone here knows, excruciatingly boring to the common reader/listener.
