Hope this article helps:

Market Makers (MM) is a bidder or seller of a stock. You will see them on the L2 quotes if you have them.

There are notorious market makers who are known for what they do. And you need to watch out for them. I can tell you when a stock is going to get dumped and where support will be just based on the Level 2 quotes. I don't even have to look at the chart for these plays..

The thing about market makers are that first off they don't pay trading fees. Hell, NITE (Knight Securities) is owned by TD Ameritrade! NITE is one of the worst MM's out there. They will sit on the bid and ask all day long and flip shares.

What that means is they'll constantly buy and sell shares for small profits. But because they do it all day and they don't pay fees they make a ton of money.

Here are some info on MM's:

NITE: They are one of the biggest baddest market makers out there. They'll sit on the ask all day long. It takes a ton of volume to get them off of the ask unless it's a low floater stock.

UBSS: The AX!!! They are in 99% of pump and dumps. UBSS will dump shares all day long. From what I've learned, in pump and dumps UBSS has about 10 times more shares than the average market maker (when they're used).

There are also other market makers out there like HDSN and VERT who like to dump shares as well. But they're not as infamous as NITE and UBSS from what I've seen.
