Funny that Libya hasn't been mentioned much in the context of the recent uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt. A simple comparison of these countries is:
1) Tunisia had proven reserves of oil of 308 million barrels in 2006. Population: 10 million.
2) Libya had proved oil reserves of 41.464 billion barrels at the end of 2007. Population: 10 million
3) Egypt had proved oil reserves of 4.07 billion barrels at the end of 2007. Population: 80 million.

Anybody think the above means anything?

As strange as he is, I don't get the idea that Gaddafi is as unpopular as his fellow dictators in their own countries. Maybe I'm wrong on this. On http://www.paulcarr.com/tft/world/000961.php it states

He remained popular with Libya's poor, spending billions of dollars of the country's oil income on improving standards of living. However he also reacted brutally to any resistance to his rule, using the police, army and even student vigilante groups to keep order by force.
