JDZ Block 2 - "Bomu 1"

The "Bomu 1" exploration well was drilled in the second half of 2009. It was completed under budget and discovered dry gas in a number of formations. The Joint Development Authority granted a 12 month extension to the block's operator, Sinopec, and its partners in order that they might evaluate the "Bomu 1" results in more detail and re-evaluate the remaining prospects on the block. The Phase 1 Exploration Period, as extended, ends in March. The joint venture partners are currently in discussions on the future work programme for the block.

Equator chose Block 5 and Block 12 after interpreting 10,000km of 2D seismic data. Block 5 lies to the east of Príncipe Island on the maritime border with Equatorial Guinea. It has an area of 2,844 sq km and lies in water depths in the range 2,200 to 2,500 metres. Block 12 lies to the southeast of São Tomé Island on the maritime border with Gabon. It has an area of 7,032 sq km and lies in water depths in the range 2,500 to 3,000 metres.

A number of play and lead types similar to those that have been successful offshore Equatorial Guinea and Gabon have been identified by our technical team which has completed a full technical and financial evaluation of the blocks. The allocations are subject to the negotiation and execution of Production Sharing Contracts with ANP-STP. Equator is in the final stages of negotiating the Production Sharing Contracts
