I wonder if Hector and the other execs got together and actually figured out what it would take to save the company, and the realization was so terrifying that they decided that B.S. was the only road to salvation. It certainly seems that way from my perspective.

One thing to keep in mind. Any company facing bankruptcy, the CEO will lie through his teeth, and with good reason. Their only job is to save the company, somehow, someway. If they even hinted that their recovery plan has an element of risk, the market would react, and it would become a self-fullfilling prophesy. (The exception, I suppose, is UAL, but they are trying to leverage for a government loan).

Ruiz will say and do anything it takes to make AMD look OK, and keep the creditors away from the door. And frankly, you can't blame him.
