Churning out their brand of music for six years in the Las Vegas area, rockabilly band The Clydesdale performed poolside at the Silverton on Saturday, clad in flowery prints and proving well worth the wait.

The Clydesdale blasted forward in a LeAnn Rimes meets Social Distortion manner — neither of which I was expecting. With a sound as polished as that of any band that has tested the annals of time, this cow-punk band was a pleasant surprise.

Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Paige Overton belts out her vocals reminiscent of Patsy Cline, engaging the audience with a perky personality.

And I’m a sucker for a beautiful voice, but the creative bass lines laid down by bassist Jason Aragon made me want to hear more.

Holding down the rest of the rhythm section is drummer Courtney Carroll, who is solid and creative in her playing. During one song, she used a set of maracas as her drumsticks, creating a wonderful percussive feel while lead guitarist Andrew Karasa melded in his solo styling.

Karasa incorporates both standard six-string guitars and lap steels for that twangy country feel. Even more impressive, he builds his own guitars.

There is no wonder that The Clydesdale have been considered one of Las Vegas’ premiere alternative rock bands. The talent presented by these locals is worth the ticket to see them. If you like your music with a helping of country and blues and a side of punk, I highly recommend that you catch their show. You won’t be disappointed.
