I think that someone on RB posted that the trapezoidal wire arrangement was patented by GC and not CPTC. I went back, but could not find the post. I'm sure that trapezoidal shape is the best, but I think that the shape could be rectangular and wrapped around a steel core and that would not violate the patent. Instead of the standard size diameter, I'm sure that China can make the diameter anything they want. In other words, if CPTC is making 1 1/2 inch diameter cable, China could use rectangular wire and make the wire 3 inch diameter and get about 3 to 4 times the current through the wire. Remember that twice the diameter isn't twice the volume, it is more like 4 times the volume.
